Description
The title *Duc de Nemours* is one of the most significant and historically interesting noble titles in France. It was first granted in 1404 by King Charles VI to Charles III of Navarre. Later, the title passed to various members of the French high nobility, including the House of Savoy and the House of Orléans.
The title became particularly well-known through **Louis d’Orléans, Duc de Nemours** (1814-1896), a son of King Louis-Philippe I of France. Louis d’Orléans was a prominent member of the French monarchy and played an important role in 19th-century politics. He participated in various military campaigns and was a respected figure in the French aristocracy. After his father’s abdication during the Revolution of 1848, he went into exile and spent most of his life in England.
The title recalls a glorious era of French history and a time when the nobility still played a central role in the political and social life of the country. The Duc de Nemours remains a symbol of the old French aristocracy and its influence on European history.
